At the progressive “Eureka Day School” in Berkeley, California, a mumps outbreak forces the members of the school’s parent/administrator executive committee to confront a crisis they neverimagined. Known for consensus-deriously grapples with a vaccine-health-policy issue that splinters their community. What begins as polite negotiation rapidly descends into raw ideological conflict, live-streamed parent meetings, emoji-driven outrage, and a larger question: when science meets values, and consensus collapses, can a community survive?
Marked by biting humor, rapid-fire dialogue and serious stakes, the play is both a farce and a mirror: it skewers “woke” liberalismos, but also holds tenderness for parents trying to do right by their kids. It asks: is there still room for doubt in a world where everyone demands certainty? And: what happens when the tools of inclusion become barriers to action?
The dark comedy won the 2025 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play.
